SYRACUSE —Whitko’s softball team won its first ever Wawasee Invitational Saturday, beating both South Bend Clay and the tournament host Wawasee.
The Lady Wildcats topped Wawasee in the title game, 4-2.
Both teams came out with their bats swinging, as Whitko scored two runs and Wawasee had a run in the first inning.
Whitko extended its lead to 3-1 in the second. Wawasee scored its second and last run in the bottom of the third.
The Lady Wildcats sealed the win with another run in the fifth, making the final score 4-2.
Whitko’s softball team easily handled South Bend Clay in the opening round, 8-1.
The Lady ’Cats scored two runs in the first inning, five in the third and one in the sixth. South Bend did not get on the scoreboard until the bottom of the seventh inning.
Pitcher Ellie Snep recorded four strikeouts, no hits and two walks.
Shi Bradley pitched two innings, giving up two hits and one run.
Anna Ousley hit a double, Emmy Duggins hit two singles, Snep hit a single, Bradley hit three singles and a double and Kennedy Krull hit a single.
Whitko 10, Carroll 6
SOUTH WHITLEY — The Lady Eagles topped a competitive Carroll team 10-6 last week.
Carroll got on the board first with a run in the first inning, but Whitko scored two runs in the second and another in the third to take a 3-1 lead.
The Lady Chargers retaliated in the bottom of the third, scoring three runs, but Whitko scored four in the fourth and three more in the sixth and seventh innings to finish off the game.
Both teams tallied nine hits.
Pitcher Ellie Snep got the win on the mound of Whitko.
Shi Bradley hit a single and a double, Emmy Duggins hit a single, Snep hit a triple, Reannon Hopkins hit a single, Kennedy Krull hit a triple and Andrea Snavely hit a single.
Whitko 8, Maconaquah 0
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko’s softball team beat Maconaquah 8-0 last week.
The first inning was scoreless, but the Lady Wildcats got on the scoreboard with a run in the second inning. Whitko tacked on another four runs were scored in the third inning. The Wildcats finished off the game by scoring three runs in the sixth inning.
Ellie Snep recorded her shutout win on the mound with five strikeouts and only one walk given. Kristina Slater led the team at-bat with a single and a double.
Whitko 10, C. Noble 0
SOUTH WHITLEY – Whitko’s softball team run-ruled Central Noble 10-0 in South Whitley Friday evening. The win is significant, because Whitko’s lone loss came to Central Noble in early March.
Whitko scored two runs apiece for the first four innings. The Lady Wildcats also scored a run in the fifth and sixth innings. Sophomore Emalee Duggins went 2 for 2 at bat, including a double, and recorded two RBIs.
Emillie Snep struck out eight batters and only allowed one hit for the night in her win on the mound.
