COLUMBIA CITY — A 20-year-old Columbia City man was struck and killed by a train Monday morning

Seth T. Barton was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a press release by the Whitley County Coroner.
Sheriff Marc Gatton said personnel on the Norfolk and Southern train told him Barton stood on the tracks and watched as the train approached him.
“It appears it was on purpose,” Gatton said.
It took the train about one mile to get stopped after the incident, which occurred in the 5000 south block of County Road 300 West in Washington Township.
Gatton said Barton’s lived in the vicinity of the incident.
The death remains under the investigation of Whitley County Coroner Randy Dellinger.
