COLUMBIA CITY — Whitley County Consolidated Schools hosted a retirement celebration for its 18 teachers with more than 450 years of combined service to the district before the May 15 regular board meeting.

Two retirees served WCCS for four decades. Bill Helm retires as the head custodian of Indian Springs Middle School after 41 years. Myra Schmidt retires after 40 years as a teacher at Coesse Elementary School.

ISMS teachers John Alcock (38.5 years) and Linda Worthman (38 years) are also retiring this year. Also surpassing the 30-year mark are Sallly Gasaway, 36 years as media assistant at CES, and Nanette Pierece, 36 years as a teacher at CES.

Six WCCS employees are retiring after more than 20 years. Those include:

• Lee Ann Curtis, 27 years, teacher at Northern Heights Elementary School

• Linda Alcock, 26, years, teacher at ISMS

• Julie Wood, 22 years, teacher at Mary Raber Elementary School

• Jenny Grable, 20 years, deputy treasurer

• Margaret “Ann” Smith, 20 years, media assistant at ISMS

Other retirees are:

• Jere Michel, 19 years, accounts payable for WCCS

• Terri Clupper, 19 years, food service at MRES

• Brian Lickey, 16 years, custodian at Columbia City High School

• Linda Denman, 15 years, teacher at ISMS

• Cheryl Swihart, 14 years, paraprofessional at MRES

• Robyn Coverstone, 10 years, food services at MRES
