COLUMBIA CITY — Recruitment for the 54th annual Distinguished Young Woman Program of Whitley County is Tuesday, April 17, 4:15 p.m. in the boardroom of the Community Foundation of Whitley County, 400 N. Whitley St., Columbia City. The program date is Saturday, Aug. 25, 7 p.m. in the Newell Rice Auditorium of Columbia City High School.

Those eligible to participate are young women who will graduate from high school in 2019, are Whitley County residents or attend high school in Whitley County. Home schooled young women who will graduate in 2019 can also participate. No entry fee is charged nor is a contestant responsible for selling tickets or advertisements for the program. Participation in this program is voluntary. Discussion at the orientation will center on the judging categories of the program, panel interview, scholastics, talent, self expression and fitness. A brief description of the Be Your Best Self program, a nationally developed and implemented program, will be given.
The local program is operated by an all volunteer board of directors. Cash scholarships are awarded to the category winners and are administered through the Community Foundation of Whitley County.
Alexia Aung, the Whitley County winner for 2018 and a “Top 10 Finalist” at the Indiana Distinguished Young Woman in February, will be present at the meeting. Aung is a senior at Churubusco High School.
