Megan Young and Andy Spencer were dating when they tragically died in a car accident. Their memory carries on through a memorial scholarship and annual picnic.

COLLINS — The annual picnic to memorialize a pair of teens who died in a tragic car accident will be held this Sunday, from 2-5 p.m.

The families of Megan Young and Andy Spencer invite the community to attend the picnic, which is held at the Youngs’ home in Collins, 5485 E. S.R. 205.

The picnic is a potluck, so bring a dish or two, and lawn chairs. There will be food, music, group prayer and a balloon release.

“It is truly a wonderful opportunity to gather together in fellowship, to honor God, give thanks for family and exchange precious memories, or perhaps introduce you to these amazing young people who remain so very loved and missed,” said a letter submitted by their parents.

Scholarships have been awarded for the past nine years to graduating Churubusco High School male and female students from the funds raised in memory of Young and Spencer. Spencer was a member of the Class of 2010 and Young was a member of the Class of 2011.

“At 16 and 17 years of age, Megan and Andy left us far too soon. Although they’ve gone ahead, they continue to impact the lives of those who know them, the community that was their home, and, amazingly, people and places beyond,” the letter reads.
