WHITLEY COUNTY — Four Whitley County agencies received a total of about $1.3 million in Community Crossings grants from the state.
Last week, the Indiana Department of Transportation announced grant recipients, which included about $262,000 for Churubusco, $325,000 for South Whitley, $650,000 for Whitley County and $70,000 for Larwill.
The Next Level Roads: Community Crossings Initiative provides state matching funds to local governments for road construction projects.
Gov. Eric Holcomb and INDOT announced that 283 entities, out of the 444 that applied, received a total of $100 million in grants.
Community Crossings was created by the Indiana General Assembly. For many government entities, projects wouldn’t be possible without assistance from the grants.
“Community Crossings helps cities, towns and counties take care of what they have and plan for the future,” INDOT commissioner Joe McGuinness said. “Three years into the program, the state has partnered with local governments to improve thousands of road miles and dozens of bridges. The impact has been significant and felt across all 92 counties and I’m excited for that impact to continue with this round of projects.”
