HUNTERTOWN — Columbia City’s wrestling team placed fourth in the Carroll sectional on Saturday, and several individuals are advancing to this week’s regional.
Churubusco placed seventh, Whitko finished 10th, and Carroll won the sectional.
Columbia City’s Pettigrew was the sectional champion at 160 pounds, improving to 32-2 on the season.
Those placing in the top four move onto the next round.
Churubusco’s Zander Hord finished fourth in the 106-pound weight class. Columbia City’s Allan Maggard placed fifth.
Columbia City’s Austin Dunnick took fourth in the 116-pound weight class.
At 120 pounds, Churubusco’s Dominic Heath placed third, beating Columbia City’s Isaiah Litherland in a 5-3 decision for the third-place match.
CC’s Jarrett Forrester took second in the 126-pound weight class, falling by a 2-0 decision in the championship match. Churubusco’s Korbyn Reister finished third in the class, winning by a 5-4 decision. Whitko’s Kyle Reed placed fifth.
Columbia City’s Ryan Sheets finished fifth at 132 pounds. Churubusco’s Lane Dafforn and Whitko’s Robert Werstler lost their opening round matches.
Columbia City’s Hunter Maggard placed third at 138 pounds. Churubusco’s Cody Graft won the opening-round match against Whitko’s Jordan Courter but fell to Carroll’s Reis Schrock in round two.
’Busco’s Nick Nondorf placed fifth at 145 pounds.
Columbia City’s Alton Mullinax took fourth in the 152-pound weight class. Mullinax beat Churubusco’s Seth Gunkel by a 5-1 decision in the opening round.
Following Pettigrew’s first place at 160 pounds, Churubusco’s Skylar Krider took sixth.
CC’s Carter Wireman finished third at 170 pounds. Churubusco’s Sam Huelsenbeck and Whitko’s Brady Mitchell dropped their first-round matches in the class.
Churubusco’s Landon Keener placed fourth in the 182-pound weight class and Columbia City’s Solomon Barrera took second.
Marcus Debolt finished fifth in the 195-pound class. Columbia City’s Sebastion Rose fell to eventual champion, Huntington’s Charlie Agnew, in the second round after beating Whitko’s Dalton Webb in the opening round.
Churubusco’s Reese Wicker placed third at 220 pounds and Columbia City’s Ian Clifford finished fifth.
Churubusco’s Hunter Bianski pinned Columbia City’s Cordell Cochran in the fifth-place match at 285 pounds.
Those qualifying will compete in the Carroll Regional at 9 a.m. Saturday and will be joined by the top individuals from the New Haven sectional.
