COLUMBIA CITY — The Whitley County Commissioners elected to close the County Courthouse & non-essential County Government offices Wednesday and Thursday.
This closure is associated with extremely cold temperatures and hazardous travel conditions in the unincorporated areas of Whitley County. Crews have made substantial progress maintaining the roadways and will continue their efforts.
The Whitley County Travel Status is WATCH
Travel WATCH = Conditions are threatening to the safety of the public. During a “watch” local travel advisory, only essential travel, such as to and from work or in emergency situations, is recommended, and emergency action plans should be implemented by businesses, schools, government agencies and other organizations.
“We understand businesses and private industry often make decisions about closure depending on road conditions or emergency levels, but this is a WEATHER event which requires each agency, department and business to make their decisions independently for the safety of their employees,” stated a news release provided by county government officials Tuesday night.
“As with any extreme event, we encourage our community to be prepared. Take these conditions seriously and plan ahead.”
