SYRACUSE — The Indiana State Police have been requested by Kosciusko County Sheriff Kyle Dukes to investigate an officer-involved shooting that occurred while serving an arrest warrant Friday in Syracuse.

At approximately 4:40 p.m. Friday, members of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team were assisting members of the Syracuse Police Department in serving an arrest warrant at a residence located at 505 N. Huntington St., Syracuse.

Preliminary information indicates that as officers made entry into the house, the subject of the warrant, Dale Harner, 27, began to raise a handgun from his waist. The lead SWAT Team member, Travis Shively, fired multiple rounds from his handgun towards Harner. Harner was not struck by any of the rounds.

Harner was ultimately taken into custody by members of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team. Any questions related to the warrant service and arrest of Harner should be directed to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Office.

Shively is a 15-year member of the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and a 10-year member of the SWAT Team.

At the conclusion of the investigation, all information will be turned over to the Kosciusko County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office for review.
