COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City played host to the annual Whitley County track meet last week.

The hosts won the boys meet and Churubusco’s girls edged Columbia City by two points to win the girls meet. Whitko finished third.

Churubusco’s girls won with 75 points, followed by Columbia City with 73 and Whitko with 18.

Columbia City’s boys scored 86 points, followed by Churubusco with 52 and Whitko with 30.

Columbia City won all three relay events and was also led by Alex Scharpenberg in high jump, clearing 6 feet; Hesting in shot put with a throw of 52 feet, 1 inch; Landon Wakeman in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 10:28; Jacob Wigent in the 110-meter high hurdles and Doug Hill sweeping the 100- and 200-, and 400-meter dashes.

Churubusco’s Sam Wood had a strong showing at the meet, winning the long jump with a leap of 19 feet, 8.5 inches, the 300-meter hurdles in 40.74 seconds and pole vault, clearing 15 feet, 6 inches. He also finished second in the 110 hurdles.
