COLUMBIA CITY — Columbia City’s Common Council voted unanimously to remove breed specific verbiage from its dangerous dog ordinance at its meeting last week.

“Right now ours is breed-specific for what is a dangerous dog,” Mayor Ryan Daniel said. “I feel really strongly that this is a move in the right direction to make it better and not be so breed specific.”

Daniel said that it can be difficult to determine what animals actually are pit bulls, since there are many dogs that may look like pit bulls but aren’t.

“Unless you have a document that’s certified that says it is a pit bull, there are a lot of animals that look like it but aren’t actually pit bulls.”
